Ondalume Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 2, 2026

This policy explains what information the Ondalume app (“Ondalume”, “the app”, “we”) uses, why, and what happens to it. It covers Ondalume on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and on Android. In short: Ondalume has no accounts, does not collect personal data, does not record or store audio, and does not track you.

Ondalume is developed by BarkerBit. If you have any question about this policy, contact us at barkkerbit@gmail.com.

1. Microphone

Ondalume uses the microphone to recognize the song playing near you and to follow its lyrics.

  • The app listens only after you tap Listen, and only while the app is open on screen. It never listens in the background. Your device shows its recording indicator while the app listens (on Android, from Android 12).
  • Audio is processed on your device in short-lived memory buffers and is released when listening stops. Ondalume never records, saves, or uploads your audio.
  • To identify the song, the app creates an audio signature (a compact fingerprint that cannot be turned back into sound) and sends it to Apple’s Shazam recognition service (on every platform, including Android). Apple’s handling of that request is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
  • To keep the lyrics in time, the app analyzes the audio on the device: it detects when someone is singing, notices gaps between tracks, and compares recent sound against the lyric lines it already has using a speech model that runs on the device. None of this audio or its results leaves your device, and nothing is written to storage.

You can deny or revoke microphone access at any time in your device’s settings (on iPhone and iPad, Settings › Ondalume; on Android, Settings › Apps › Ondalume › Permissions). The app will then not be able to recognize songs.

2. Information sent over the network

Ondalume connects to the internet only for the following:

ServiceWhat is sentWhy
Apple Shazam (song recognition)An audio signature of the last few seconds of soundTo identify the song
LRCLIB (lrclib.net)The identified song’s title, artist, album, and duration, plus the app’s versionTo fetch lyrics
Apple Music catalog and iTunes Search (Apple)The identified song’s catalog ID, ISRC code, or title and artistTo find the album cover
Album cover serversA request for the identified song’s cover imageTo show the album cover
Hugging Face (huggingface.co)A one-time download request for the public speech model filesTo enable on-device lyric matching

No audio, account, contact, location, or device identifier is included in any of these requests. As with any internet connection, these services can see your device’s IP address when it connects to them; each handles it under its own privacy policy.

Apple Music permission (iPhone, iPad, and Mac). Ondalume may ask for access to Apple Music. It uses this only to look up album covers in Apple’s public music catalog. It does not read your music library, playlists, or listening history, and it works without it: if you decline, covers are found another way or a placeholder is shown. Ondalume on Android never asks for this permission; it finds covers through Apple’s public iTunes Search.

3. Information stored on your device

Ondalume stores only:

  • Your colour theme (Hearth, Stone, Harbor, or Rock).
  • A lyric timing offset (a single number used to fine-tune lyric timing).
  • The speech model files downloaded from Hugging Face, kept in the app’s cache. These are the same public files for every user and contain nothing about you.
  • On Android only, whether the app has already asked for microphone access, so it can show the right prompt or point you to Settings.

Lyrics, album covers, and song results are kept in memory only and are discarded when the app closes. Nothing is stored about what you listened to.

4. What we do not collect

Ondalume does not:

  • require or offer an account, or ask for your name, email, or any login;
  • record, store, or share audio;
  • keep a history of songs you identified;
  • use analytics, advertising, or tracking tools of any kind;
  • use advertising identifiers or track you across apps and websites;
  • access your location, contacts, photos, or any other personal data;
  • sell or share any information with anyone.

Because we do not collect personal data, we have no personal data to disclose, sell, or delete. We do not receive any diagnostic or usage data from the app.

5. Children’s privacy

Ondalume does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your country).

6. Your choices and rights

  • Turn microphone access on or off in your device’s Settings.
  • Delete the app to remove everything it stored on your device (your theme, timing offset, the cached speech model, and on Android the microphone prompt flag).

Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in the EU/UK or the CCPA in California), you may have rights to access or delete personal data about you. Since Ondalume collects none, there is nothing held by us to access or delete, but you are welcome to contact us with any request.

7. Lyrics attribution
